Divisions
The Society has four Divisions which plan the scientific content for the Society's conference and events programme:
- Eukaryotic Division
- Prokaryotic Division
- Virus Division
- Irish Division
The three scientific Divisions each represent members working in specific areas within microbiology, while the Irish Division liaises between the Society and its members based on the island of Ireland. They each work independently to plan some conference sessions, they also collaborate to develop symposia with cross-cutting themes.
Each Division is headed by a Chair and Chair-elect who sit on the Scientific Conferences Panel. Each Division also holds a representative position on Building Communities Committee (usually the Chair). Division members are recruited to cover a broad range of scientific expertise and geographic representation within the Divisions’ areas.
