Microbial Genomics Senior Editor: call for expressions of interest

The Journal of General Virology (JGV) has appointed Professor Rachel Fearns as Editor-in-Chief from 1 January 2026.

All of our members and event delegates will shortly be seeing some changes, primarily to the membership area of the website and to event registration.

The Microbiology Society was saddened to learn of the recent death of Professor Maurice O. Moss, a long term member of the Society, having first joined in 1961.
 

International research team identify 35 viral genomes in Antarctic penguins, revealing how wildlife and viruses evolve together in extreme environments. The paper, titled 'Diversity of polyomaviruses and papillomaviruses in penguins from eastern and western Antarctica' is published in Microbial Genomics.
